John Dougherty GHS Class of 1973
August 29, 2025
Mr. Myslivecek, or simply Mr. "M" as he allowed us to address him at Garden City High School in the early 1970's, was far and away my favorite teacher. I took every course he taught from Mechanical Drawing to Auto/Metal shop any enjoyed every minute of it. Mr. M was perhaps the most patient and pleasant man I've ever encountered, always smiling and encouraging. I remember his words like it was yesterday when he wrote in my high school yearbook "Keep up the mechanical work John, the world needs men who know what they are doing." As humble as he was he probably never knew that I went on to follow in his footsteps in getting a BS in Industrial Arts at Oswego and eventually a Masters in Technology Education at Fitchburg State in Massachusetts. Now after a long and rewarding career as a high school Shop teacher I can say without equivocation that I owe it all to Mr. M. The world needs good men, the world needs more men like Mr. M.
