Edward Hugh O'Malley, affectionately known as Ed or Mr. O to his friends and loved ones, passed away on December 14, 2025, in Dover, Delaware, at the age of 86.
Born on June 19, 1939, in
Brooklyn, New York, to the late George and Margaret (Doherty) O'Malley, Ed's life was a testament to the power of hard work, community involvement, and the joy of shared laughter.
Despite the sorrow of his passing, Ed's legacy is one of love, friendship, and service. Ed was a spirited and enterprising man who took great pride in his work. He owned and operated a successful sewer cleaning business in Queens, New York, earning the nickname "Ed from Draino" among his loyal customers. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his community. Ed's friendly and humorous nature made him a beloved figure, and his ability to fix just about anything made him the go-to handyman in the neighborhood.
Raised Catholic, he lived his beliefs through his actions, always ready to lend a helping hand. His presence was a comfort to those around him, and his generosity knew no bounds.Ed's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ada O'Malley; his loving daughter, Maureen Alamas and her husband Juan; his cherished grandchildren, Mara Montez and her husband John, Kendra O'Malley, Hunter Middleton, and Cooper Middleton; and his sister, Margaret McCutcheon.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved son, George O'Malley, and his siblings George, Gloria, Alice, Geraldine, Robert, and Kathleen.
In his leisure time, Ed was often found tending to his garden, a place of peace and solitude where he cultivated not only plants but also friendships. Neighbors were always welcome to join him for a chat. He served on his neighborhood Homeowners Association, where his insights and humor were invaluable. Ed's afternoons were often spent sitting outside, with their dog, Mira, or taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood, greeting everyone he met with a friendly smile. Evenings you could find him looking through his cookbooks for his next baking adventure. He loved baking fresh breads and cakes. His delicious cheesecakes will be missed.
Ed's life was one of joyous engagement with the world around him. He approached each day with a sense of purpose, a readiness to laugh, and an open heart. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told by those who knew him best-stories of the funny, friendly, and handy man who could always be counted on.
