Edward A. Pomponio
Eddie is survived by his mother, two sisters, and two nieces. In addition, he has a large extended family of close friends for which we are grateful. We would like to thank all the people who extended their kindness and love to Eddie over the years.
Eddie was a charismatic guy; even as a child he could win you over. His sense of humor kept us going through some tough times. Because of this charm and humor, he was the perfect person for his chosen profession as a singer. Eddie was front man for the hardcore band Leeway. They had success through the mid 80's and 90's.
Because of this, Eddie's impact on the hardore music scene was profound, earning him accolades from fans and fellow musicians alike. He and the rest of the band garnered much praise over their careers:
"A fearless, game changing frontman... Eddie's presence and voice altered the course of hardcore music for the better forever. There will never be another like him."
-Hardlore
"Someone told me I dressed like Eddie Sutton and I couldn't stop smiling all day"
-Davemurphyslaw
Leeway put out four full-length albums
Born to Expire 1989
Desperate Measures 1991
Adult Crash 1994
Open Mouth kiss 1995
Following the departure of the original band members, Eddie toured with various musicians under the Leeway's name until starting another band called Truth & Rights.
Eddie was always the showman and always high-energy when performing. After a show in Tompkins Square Park, and while Eddie was three years in with his challenging battle with cancer, this is what some fans had to say:
"Eddie looking like the fucking boss that he is!"
-BrianFitspatrick79
"He still ROCKS the track suit"
-Keli108
Eddie traveled all over the United States and Europe with Leeway and other musicians He made thousands of friends along the way.
His heart was big enough to love them all.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
