Edward Lee Scovil

Edward Lee Scovil of Newark, New Jersey, departed this life on January 6, 2026. Born in Newark on January 16, 1947, to the late Rose and Samuel Scovil, Ed was educated in the Newark Public School system. Following his 1966 graduation from Barringer High School, he proudly served in the United States Army.
In 1968, Ed married Marsha Scovil. Their union was blessed with two sons, Edward Scovil Jr. (Noonie) and Marshall Scovil (Turkey), both of whom preceded their father in death. Professionally, Ed was a dedicated Truck Driver of Lynn Steel Trucking Company, where he worked for many years until his retirement.
A man of style and charisma, Ed was a sharp dresser who took great pleasure in shopping with Debra. Nickname "Nitro." He enjoyed playing pool with his friends and was a vibrant personality who often became the life of the party. He loved to dance and was voted best dancer in Jr. high school. Known for his wisdom and humor, Ed never hesitated to offer advice, whether requested or not. His favorite pastimes included watching westerns, karate, and foreign films, though his greatest joy remained spending time with family and friends.
Ed was predeceased by his siblings: Robert, Mary, Sam, Roberta, Ray, Jay, William, Ronald, Sylvester, and Teril.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter-in-law, Meshelle Scovil; grandson, Edward Darby; and his loving partner of 28 years, Debra Jones. He is survived by his sisters, Pearl Pleasant and Twana Scovil, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including his best friend of 40 years Eddie (Sarge).
