Ed was the perfect neighbor. Quiet and unimposing, yet someone I knew I could count on and call on as a real friend in a time of need. When I needed help getting my very frail mother-in-law up to the second floor of our house after a mega snow storm, we called Ed and he as usual provided the needed muscle.
His love of their two children and his wife Theresa was evident whenever we occasionally spoke over the years we lived across the street. I've missed his quiet waves as we pasted on the street for a while. We knew the fight he was in, and while we wish he would have won, we hope and pray he is peaceful in a better place.

Wow, this really hits home. Ed was a great guy - a Great American, a Great Motorolan, a Great Baltimore Sports Fan and a Great Family Man. Always talking about his family, football, baseball and golf. I had the pleasure of working with Ed in Fairfax County back in the day. With a great team of people from Motorola and the customer. I remember when my account manager and dear friend Mark Waters wanted to cook for all the Public Safety folks at the Fairfax Rally. I said sure, we will sponsor. So Mark and Ed were cooking for about 200 Public Safety personnel from the region. For Mark and Ed is was a pay back to the men and women who protect us. What a great thought, I will always remember Ed for his service to the Public Safety personnel. I am so sad for the entire Shock Family, Ed will be sadly missed. Rest In Peace my Friend, from your friend Steve Eckels.

I will miss Ed's sense of humor and his positive outlook on everything, sprinkled with a small dose (OK sometimes a heaping pile) of sarcasm. My condolences to the entire family. God Bless you all.

Ed always told it like it was, no fluff or ambiguity. A little bit of Ed will live in the hearts and minds of all the FCFOA. May God comfort Therese, Cruz, and Nikole during this time of reflection and grief.

Ed Shock was good friend and co-worker of mine, I met him over 16 / 17 years ago, he was the Service System Manager and I was the Account Executive for the County of Fairfax VA. This account was probably one of the largest ACCTS Motorola has on the East Coast. Basically, he was the one who made sure the customers mission critical communications systems were always on the air and I was the local salesman plugging all our gear, we had a very good relationship. As mentioned, his mission was to provide the best technical and service to our customer utilizing one of our premier radio shops, Wireless Communications. I do want to mention that we had a lot of other folks at Motorola helping us when it was needed. At times it was like Mission Impossible! Yep, things blew up there from time to time, somehow someway we got through everything. We were known as Batman and Robin: Shine that BIG Motorola SPOTLIGHT, we were always double teaming them with everything we had to increase sales and additional services. Ed was incredible at this profession. When you think back now we had a great run there!

Ed and I participated in many of the Motorola Leaders Club yearly Mid-Atlantic Territory Meetings. There were meetings in Baltimore and naturally the Ravens and Os were a big part of those meetings which Ed played a role in both of those meetings. There was one meeting in Williamsburg, VA and our theme was the Declaration of Motorola. Well, at this meeting, Ed, myself and another Motorolan dressed up as colonist and we all did a skit tailored to our audience with a Motorola spin. We looked really funny, hilarious, our skit was well received. Pretty cool. Let me tell you this Ed really didnt want to get dressed up in these Colonial Times outfits. He almost pulled the plug on this skit at the last moment He was not thrilled with this skit and costume, but he pulled through like a real redcoat.

We did quite a bit of cooking together at the Fairfax County Interoperabilty Rally. Going back 14 years ago we did the first one for the local counties, it was kind of small. We had a small crew there serving and cooking with one massive smoker. Maybe 125-150 people. Ed and I were the main cog for the event. It grew over time with more first responders attending and more Motorolans pitching in. One year we served over 500 folks. This past year Ed came down and enjoyed himself, I could tell he was tired he had a good time seeing everyone and everyone really enjoyed seeing Ed.

Besides working for the BIG M (Motorola), getting bi monthly payroll checks, discussing system sales strategies and multiple weekly meetings/conference calls we had other similar interests. I got to know his family from stories he would share and eventually met his family. I heard a lot about Tyler, he went out with Nikole for some time, they finally get married last year. It was a great ceremony and I know Ed was very proud that day seeing his daughter get married. You could see it in his grin all day. A happy dadiiooo! What a great family

The boy was from Bmore, home of the Os. He would hang out in Baltimore a lot with family and it sounded like they ate some of the best Italian food going! There are some good cooks in that family. Ed even brewed beer. Back to the Os. He was a true fan and we all know what that team has been through. We went to a few of those games. I had the pleasure of taking him to see a Nats game with Cruz and Tyler. My wife, Helen and I met Tyler and Nikole at a game too, we got them into the PNC club for a beer. Nothing like a good ballgame with your friends and family.

Oh yeah, Eddie was a big sports junkie, I took him to a few Redskins games too, some when the Ravens were playing at Fed Ex, I did get him to other games too. Really, he just came down for my super tailgate, eating and drinking before kickoff! The man really enjoyed live football games. Ed was a referee too, for HS and JV. For sure he worked very hard at that hobby. He loved it and I know he made a lot of good friends doing that and enjoyed the after-game beers and wings. He loved the Ravens, he even broke down and got 2 seat lics/seats. He hit the big time, he was now a season ticket holder. He was very proud of that! He loved sports.

We shared Capitals tickets for a season or two too, each of those years the Caps got close but somehow they just couldnt pull the trigger like they did last season. He loved going to games. He was a diehard fan. Once again, he was a ticket holder, he was big time. I was happy when the Caps won the Stanley Cup last year and Ed got to see it.

He loved golf too, we never played enough. He had a funny stance, short backswing but he was a very, very powerful ball striker! The last round we played was with Jim Wadsworth and Dick Slusher, somewhere in MD. He was recovering, he looked good, he didnt have enough strength to play all 18, I think he got 16 holes in that day. That day he had some really good shots and when he did you could see the gleam in his face, like a little kid. Plus, he was happy, we swacked Wadsworth and Slusher on the front, back and overall. I think we won 3 bucks each. Plus, Ed, got us a great deal for golf for 28 bucks which included the golf cart and lunch/w drink. You all know, he was always trying to save a buck or 2. Another quick golf story, 4 years ago or so, I got him 2 Practice Round credentials (passes) for the Masters Tournament. He couldnt wait to make it to Augusta, GA! Well, there was some sort of emergency at Fairfax County and he could not attend, he was bummed out, Tyler and Cruz came down. The boys had a blast drinking 3 dollar beers and eating pimento cheese sandwiches. The day got rained out but the two of them had a blast. Ill have to get Tyler, Nikole and Cruz to next years Masters Tournament and do a little tribute to Ed on the course. He'll love that!

Wrapping this up, the man was a legend with his family, friends, fellow workers and customers, he will never be forgotten. We all loved him, and he will be missed.

The beautiful irony is that our loss today is anothers reunion.

Love you brotherMark Waters
