Edward Sims Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaines Funeral Home - Cleveland on Jan. 26, 2023.
Edward Sims, beloved father, son and brother, died peacefully at his family home in East Cleveland, Ohio. Edward grew up there as the second eldest of the six children of Ophelia and Buddy Sims (deceased). His sister Carol Boyd predeceased him. He was sixty-four years old. Edward met his former wife Cynthia Sims at church and their union gave birth to two sons, Dwayne Lamont Sims and Michael Gerald Sims.
He graduated from Shaw High School and was proud to be a Cardinal. He matriculated to a bible college in Cleveland, TN for a term then he returned home to pursue a vocation to be a cook. He worked at various restaurants throughout Cleveland; most recently at Denny's in Willoughby, OH. In June 1984, Edward joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR).
Growing up, Edward loved the Lord God and the Jacksons, especially Michael Jackson. He collected their albums, recordings and magazines that chronicled their lives. He would later share this pastime with his sons. At Christmas, Edward was the favorite to sing 'The Little Drummer Boy.' Like the drummer boy about which he sang, Edward gave of himself to family and friends. Edward was known for the way in which he joked around and made others laugh with him.
Though the man in the mirror had begun to challenge his strength, Edward persisted in living his own way. He loved the special time spent with his sons playing arcade games, reviewing albums, and sharing trivia. Edward was thrilled to watch horror movies, especially the groundbreaking music video, Thriller. He filled countless notebooks with displays of his remarkable penmanship. He also enjoyed walking around the various neighboring suburban communities, and he was always delighted to reunite with a friendly face from school or the neighborhood.
He is survived by his mother, Ophelia Sims; sons Dwayne Lamont Sims and Michael Gerald Sims (Lovelle Brown); grandson Dwayne Lamont Sims Jr.; three brothers, Curtis Sims (Elaine); Anthony Sims and Willie Sims (Debra); and sister, Margaruite S. Kass (Andrew), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family relatives and friends.
