Edward Sternbach was a devoted son and brother, a loving husband, a father and uncle, a World War II veteran and a skilled accountant.
Edward was born the second son to Max and Rose Sternbach in Newark on May 3,1926. Edward remained very close to his mother and older brother Martin for the remainder of their lives.
From a young age, Edward worked in his parents grocery store. In 1944, upon high school graduation, in the middle of WWII, Edward joined the US Navy, eventually becoming a Special Artificer petty officer.
After discharge in 1946, Edward attended Pace College in NY and graduated with an accounting degree. He married Gertrude (Trudy) Gold on March 31, 1951, with whom he had two daughters - Lorie and Marla. Edward worked for Curtis Wright and then the US Department of Defense in Springfield, NJ as a financial analyst. In 1960, He moved his family to New Providence, NJ and was an active member of the Jewish Community Center in Summit. He was an advocate for the Developmentally Disabled, serving on various boards.
In addition to his busy professional career, family life, Temple and volunteer work, Edward provided accounting services for multiple clients. Edward was a great gardener, maintaining a large vegetable plot behind the New Providence home. Every evening after work, Edward could be spotted in his garden, trimming, weeding, and loving his plants. Edward retired at the age of 60 from the Department of Defense. Edward and Trudy moved to Brick, NJ and then to Toms River, NJ. Edward loved to go fishing and taking gambling trips to Atlantic City.
Edward also loved his Dachshunds - Petey and Bonnie Belle. Bonnie Bell was his favorite; she would sleep contentedly on his lap while he was working in his home office.
Edward and Trudy loved to travel: Caribbean Cruises, Europe, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Canada and Israel.
Trudy passed away early in 2001, four days after their 50th wedding anniversary. In June, 2005 Edward married Adele Berenson. They became "snowbirds", splitting their time between Boca Raton, Florida and Toms River, NJ. They were happily married for almost 18 years.
Edward Sternbach is survived by his wife Adele, his daughters Lorie and Marla, his son-in-law Richard, and his niece Mona.
