Savannah- Edward Forest Stringer, III, MD, 65, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at his home. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on September 5, 1946. Dr. Stringer graduated from Richmond Academy in 1964, University of Georgia, Phi Beta Kappa, 1968, Medical College of Georgia 1972, served his surgical residency at Memorial Medical Center from 1972-1977. He practiced surgery until 1991. From 1983 to 1986 he served as Chairman of the Department of surgery at Memorial Hospital, was Chief of Staff at Memorial in 1987and Vice President of Medical Affairs from 1992-1995 he also was Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. He served as the Medical Director of Employee Health at Memorial University and Medical Director for Memorial Health Partners. He was instrumental in the founding of Help Save One of Our Own Foundation where he served on the Board of Directors. Dr. Stringer was a member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church, the D&D Hunting Club and an avid Nascar Fan. Survivors include his wife, Martha Ellen Stringer; children, Dr. Edward F. Stringer, IV and his wife, Margie, Christopher John Wallace and his wife, Jaclyn, all of Savannah, and Susan Stringer Polis and her husband Mathew of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, William Forest Stringer, Mathew Douglas Polis, Jr., Christian Polis, Ryan Polis, Christopher John Wallace, Jr., Jack Tillan Wallace, and Ella Santamaria Wallace; sister, Angela Stringer Maddox; uncle, Terry Waller, both of Augusta, Georgia; and special companions, Buddy, Coco and Elsie. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012 at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Dimmitt and Rev. Mike Bedford officiating. Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Save One of Our Own Foundation, 408 Jackson Woods Blvd., Savannah, GA 31405.
