Edward Joseph Summey, fondly called "Eddie," was the eldest son of Edward and Anna Summey's 19 children. Born February 27th, 1936, Eddie was raised in the quaint town of Red Bank, New Jersey, and spent his younger years attending school and church and exploring his neighborhood with siblings and friends. Following his teenage passion for horses, Eddie sought employment with the local racetrack, often traveling along the east coast to groom and ready them for their next race.
Eddie met the love of his life, Gloria Odessa Harvis when she moved from Alabama to his hometown. The two married and shortly after moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles, where Eddie found employment as an aircraft painter with the Lockheed Martin Corporation. Despite the distance, he and his bride traveled back East often to visit family and friends. In addition to family visits, the two became world travelers, vacationing on every continent but one.
When not traveling, Eddie's favorite pastime was bowling. He joined a league, and although suffering a stroke in his mid-life, he continued to bowl, collecting trophies well into his seventies.
Although the couple had no children of their own, Eddie's two teenage nieces were welcomed into their home after his sister lost her battle with breast cancer.
After making a life in California, Eddie retired from Lockheed, and to be closer to family, he and Odessa sold their Los Angeles home and moved to Florida. They settled in Riverview, a city just outside of Tampa, where Eddie spent the remainder of his life. There he found new friends and kind and supportive neighbors. Eddie wasn't a man of many wants, but the one thing he desired was to be put to rest near his parents, Edward and Anna. Suffering from several ailments, Eddie took his last breath on the morning of May 30th, 2022, at Brandon Hospital in Florida.
After 65 years of marriage, Edward Joseph's wife Gloria Odessa is left behind to mourn his passing. She remains in Florida with her family. He is predeceased by his parents and 11 siblings Louise Seward, Eleanor Parker, Betty Jean Morton, Mary Williams, Jessie Mae Gregory, Caroline Summey, John, Ronald, Frederick, Russell, and Frank Summey. Mourning Eddie are his sisters Linda Boggs, Gail Render, Pamela Gideon, Valerie Summey, and his brothers Walter, James, and David Summey. He will be missed by brother-in-law JT Harvis, and sister-in-laws Shirline Hearn, Wilma Johnson and Jean Carter.
Eddie was uncle, cousin, and friend to many, and they will truly miss him.
