SERVICE FOLDER
Edward "Ed" Theunissen, 73, Hoven, SD, died Thursday, August 8, 2024 at his farm SW of Hoven.
Edward, son of Irene (Nothaus) and Theodore "Ted" Theunissen, was born November 26, 1950 at Hoven. Ed was brought up on the family farm four miles south and two miles west of Hoven. He attended St. Anthony's Catholic School in Hoven. He and his brother, Donald, helped their parents with farming and with milking the family dairy herd. When they quit milking in 2012, they were the last dairy in Potter County. Edward was a proud South Dakota farmer through and through. He was the primary operator of the farm equipment and chief mechanic to keep everything running. He and Donald continually upgraded the family farm operation to include new buildings to protect all the machinery during South Dakota's long winters. Ed insisted that all the farm equipment be red in color.
Ed is survived by his brother, Donald Theunissen of Hoven; his sister, Mary Ann (Steve) Pirner of Pierre, SD; and two nephews, Zane Pirner and Jeremy Pirner of Pierre.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ted, on February 19, 2002; his mother, Irene, on January 25, 2019; and his brother, Daniel, on October 19, 1970.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hoven, with Father Brian P. Simon, Celebrant. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Pianist will be Margaret Bobby and St. Anthony's Church Choir will sing "Be Not Afraid", "Jesus, Remember Me", "On Eagle's Wings", "Song of Farewell", and "Holy God, Praise Thy Name"; Lector will be Linda Feldmeier; Eucharistic Minister will be Suzi Vail; and Mass server will be Wyatt Huber.
Casketbearers will be Ed's classmates-Randy Simon, Bill Arbach, and Jerry Brickner and friends-Donald Schaefer, Travis Jost and Jerry Hericks, all of Hoven.
Wake services will be 7:00 PM, Monday, August 12, 2024 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with visitation beginning 5:00 PM.
