Ed was born on December 9, 1946, in Taylor, Texas. A lifelong Central Texan, he graduated from Round Rock High School and earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin before proudly serving his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. He went on to receive his Doctor of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas School of Law in 1974.
In 1976, Ed was elected Williamson County District Attorney, a role he held until 1985. During his tenure, he was known for his integrity, insight, and tireless work ethic. He served as President of the Williamson County Bar Association from 1980 to 1981 and, in 1984, was named Outstanding Prosecutor for the State of Texas by the State Bar of Texas Criminal Law Section. After leaving public office, Ed continued practicing law in family, criminal defense, and civil litigation, earning deep respect and numerous honors from both the Williamson County Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed, affectionately known to many as Trey, E or EJ, was a man of quiet strength and deep character. Soft-spoken, modest, and always insightful, he was quick to laugh and famously generous with his time. To those who knew him well, he was someone you could always depend on, and would show up, no matter the circumstances. He often joked, with his infectious deep and hearty laugh, that he had “the curse of irresistibility.”
Music was Ed’s great passion. He could often be found strumming his guitar or mandolin for hours while watching television or visiting with family. He cherished the time he spent playing in the band “40 Years Later” with close friends and never missed an opportunity to attend the annual MerleFest bluegrass festival in North Carolina.
Ed will be remembered for his wisdom, humility, steady presence, and the music that was always close to his heart. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the example he set for all who knew him.
Ed’s journey is now filled with peace and serenity as he finds rest in the embrace of God’s Eternal Love.
