Edward Leo Warn

Edward Leo Warn, July 20, 1941-October 17, 2025

Ed passed away peacefully after a zoom visit with his Hopie and her Tom, surrounded by three of the dearest caregivers at Fort Meade.

Employment: Ed was given a gifted work ethic from his father. His first job was collecting snakes to sell for Reptile Gardens of Rapid City. From there he delivered papers and moved on to delivering milk. After 4 years in the Navy (age 17 to 21) he went back to the Black Hills and delivered milk while waiting for his job in Air Traffic Control. His hearing diminished as did his job. He started selling cars and moved his family to Hastings, MN where he became used car sales manager winning many awards. Weber Ford changed ownership and Ed changed jobs, moving back to his favorite area, the Black Hills, he drove Semis for over two decades until hearing loss forced him to retire.

Personal: Ed, like all humans, was a combination of consequences: from of his youth, bad relationships, and bad choices-all resulting in rough years and tougher regrets. He hated to ask for help and wasn't always the easiest man to be around. Yet with patience, perseverance in investment and the knowledge that we are all imperfect, it was possible to forgive, have a relationship and yes, even love this sometimes gruff human being we called Dad, grandpa, uncle and friend.

Remembering that Jesus forgave us and also, as we are told to honor our parents and elderly, how can we not have done so with Ed-who, once you got to know him, found he was very lovable.

Ed will be missed. Just ask the wonderful staff at Fort Meade's E-Ward in Sturgis South Dakota. They are proof positive that if you love on someone, they will bloom!

Family: Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Harry Warn and Mary Agnes (Ringlbauer) Warn; All of his siblings, James L. Warn, Robert D. Warn, Anna (Warn) Sichterman, Ellen M. (Warn) Berger, Agnes (Warn) Westin, Vincent Edward Warn, Mary Lou (Warn) Risko, and Joan M (Warn) Westphal as well as many nephew and nieces. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Sheryl Hale, his stepdaughter Sherry (Reeves) Hedlund, stepson Nate Aaron Place (nee Nathan Leo Warn) whom he reconciled with before his death and his best friend Butch Juliano.

Ed is survived by his "Hopie", Hope R Warn (Thomas) Scheimo, grandchildren Brandon (Michelle) Yeager, Dustin (Mykanna) Yeager, Makale (Kayla) Yeager and Gabi Roth. These grandchildren and their children (14+ greats) have been a light and a joy in his later years. Ed is also survived by his niece Aleta Jean (Sichterman) Olson and her family, his neighbor and good friend Mike Michaud and nephew Tom Westin and dear friends Deb Juliano, Chris Mabry, and Joan Mabry; as well as several estranged children and their families.

Committal service will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors presented.
