Robert Warn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home - Miles City on Dec. 13, 2025.
Robert Lyon Warn passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, at the Edgewood Memory Care Facility in Billings, MT after a courageous battle with dementia. Rob was born on June 3, 1957, to Lawrence W. Warn and Merthyl L. (Ferguson) Warn, in Billings, MT. They lived in Worden, MT, until Rob was 10 then moved to Miles City, Montana. Rob graduated from Custer County High School where he was on the tennis team. He then graduated from Miles Community College with an associates degree in Electronics. He worked at M&H gas station during high school and college and that remained his gas station of choice the rest of his life.

After graduating college, he went to work for Western Geophysical starting with training in Texas and then working in Venezuela and Alaska. He really didn't enjoy it so decided to come back to Miles City near family. On return, he went to work for Coast to Coast. Later, he decided to go to work for Dick Smith at High Plains Gaming until 2004. He went back to Coast to Coast (which was then Steadman's Ace Hardware) and worked as an appliance technician until his retirement in December 2023. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and the social butterfly that he was, loved seeing the different areas of Eastern MT and meeting/chatting with new as well as familiar clients. He never met a stranger and was always told how great of a job he did on his repairs.

Rob loved throwing darts and helped Dick run one of the dart leagues for a long time. He joined the Miles City Elks #537 in 1979 and worked his way up through the officer chairs until he reached Exalted Ruler. He helped maintain the building, worked as the clerk of the Elks Radio Auction for 40+ years, and acted as a guide for new members. He liked to rebuild computers and was proud that he could supply the Elks with computers and other items they needed. Rob was also very proud to have served as a Grand Lodge District Deputy from Montana in 2011, 2012, and 2013 with distinction. He had always hoped to run for other state offices, but was derailed by the dementia diagnosis.

On June 27, 1992, Rob married Janice Hafla. They met through friends (Verlin Miller & Bernadette Flemming Miller). They held their wedding reception at the Elks. On March 28, 1993 they welcomed a daughter, Christina. On March 28, 1995, they welcomed their son, Matthew. On December 5, 2025, a grandson, Bennett, was born to Christina and Nick but not quite in time for Rob to meet him.

Rob was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia in 2024. He had a rough time with it and was always hopeful for a cure or at least to slow the progression. It progressed quickly, but he was excited about becoming a grandpa and thrilled when he realized he was a grandpa via videos and pictures shared with him.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nadine (Jeff) Whitehead. Rob is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janice, his daughter Christina (Nick Esno), and son, Matthew. He is also survived by his grandson, Bennett. He is survived by his sisters, Diona (Jerry) Austill of Great Falls, MT, and Del Norwood of Billings, MT, and his brother Russell (April) Warn of Fresno, TX. His nieces and nephews were all very special to him as well.

Rob's funeral services will be Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00 am at Stevenson and Son's Funeral Home with a light reception to follow at The Parlor. Family asks that donations to the Alzheimer's (dementia) research or Miles City Elk's Lodge #537 be given in Rob's honor in lieu of flowers.
