Obituary
Cadillac - Edward Leroy Whaley, of Manton and formerly of Sanford passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Munson Healthcare's Cadillac Hospital. He was 83.
He was born on May 19, 1940, in Saginaw, Michigan to Everett and Mary (Rogershefski) Whaley, and raised by his grandparents, Edward and Florence Whaley. Ed made his first living working with GM at the Saginaw Steering Plant for 30 years before his eventual retirement in 1989. Ed then moved on to his retirement career, which involved another 14 years of service with the Village of Sanford. Ed retired from the Village's Department of Public Works and settled in Manton. In 2008 Ed entered into marriage with the former Linda (Bigelow) Nelson in Indiana.
Ed was a longtime lover of classic cars and car shows, attending the car shows in Manton annually. In earlier years, he could often be found fishing, hunting, and on the snowmobile. Ed enjoyed taking the side by side out for a drive or an adventure, and he will be remembered for taking the unsuspecting out for one of his "joy rides".
Ed is survived by his wife, Linda Whaley of Manton; daughter, Kimberly (Larry) Randall of Sanford; son, Donald (Bonnie) Whaley of Sanford; his grandchildren, Matthew Randall, Thomas (Michelle) Randall, LeeAnn (Gage) Gall, and Mitchell Whaley; three great-grandchildren, Solomon, Jacob, and Alison; his first wife, Irene Whaley; three step-children, Douglas, Kristina (George), and Margaret; as well as many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward D. "Eddie" Whaley in 1968; as well as his parents and grandparents.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Hall-Holdship Funeral Home in Manton. Funeral services will follow on Friday October 20, 2023 at 11:00 am, also at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior. Officiating will be Pastor Jody Carsten. Ed will be laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Manton. Memorial Contributions may be directed to The Manton Car Show.
