Edward Wood Obituary


Edward (Eddie) L. Wood, 91, passed away on August 27, 2025, at his home in Woodstock, Virginia. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Wakeman's Grove Church of the Brethren in Edinburg, VA. Pastor Deb Horst and Mr. Eddie Litten will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Eddie was born in Timberville, VA, on February 16, 1934, to the late Zuleka Cave Wood and Leonard Wood. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Fleta H. Wood, who passed away in February 2020, and his daughter, Debra A. Wood, who passed away in July 2012.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna W. Hopkins (Don) of Middletown, VA, Diane W. Burner (Marty) of Maurertown, VA; and his son, Derrick (Chip) E. Wood (Shannon) of Inwood, WV. He is also survived by his special sister-in-law, Bonnie H. Barrick of Woodstock, VA. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Kyle, Anna, Ashley, Molly and Collin and great-grandchildren, Rylee, Reagan, Bayne, Skylar, Silas and Ryan.

Eddie was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving his country from April 26, 1954, until he retired in 1975. Following his military service, he worked in the auto parts business in Woodstock. In 1967 he joined the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier and postal clerk, enjoying a 28-year career. He was a member of Wakeman's Grove Church of the Brethren in Edinburg, VA, Woodstock American Legion Post 199, and Woodstock Moose lodge #575.

Eddie was an avid golfer and expert golf club re-finisher and repairman during his younger years. For many years he was a member and Stockholder of The Shenvalee Golf Resort and enjoyed keeping up with old friends and current events at the resort.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Hopkins, Paul Richardson, Collin Mason, Larry Barrick, Rylee Baker and Kyle Smallwood.
