Edwin DeVent Allison, 79, retired Field Supervisor, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, passed away in his home, Thursday, March 13, 2025. Edwin was born January 2, 1946, in Vici, Oklahoma, to the late Jasper and Lois (White) Allison. He was the fourth of five children; two sisters, Marvel and Crystal and two brothers, Cecil “CL” and Dennis.
Ed was educated in his early years in Vici, Oklahoma. His family moved to Haysville, Kansas, in his third grade year where he attended school until high school when he moved back to Oklahoma. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1964.
While attending high school, Ed met Bonnie Rae Garman. Shortly after their graduation, Ed and Bonnie were married on August 8th, 1964, at his parents’ home in Haysville, Kansas. To this union, three children were born; Scott DeVent, Melissa Rae, and Edwin Darren.
Ed was called to serve in the United States Army in July of 1966. During his time of service, he rose to Specialist IV. He served one year tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in July of 1968.
Ed was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. He was baptized on January 31, 1982, by Bro. Lewis Mannis.
After returning from military service, Ed worked in brief stints for Cessna and Boeing. He went to work for Diamond Engineering where he learned to operate all kinds of heavy equipment. These skills led him to his job with the City of Wichita as an equipment operator at Mid-Continent Airport. Ed retired from this job in 1999.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; son Scott Allison; brothers CL Allison, Dennis Allison; sister, Marvel Neal; sister-in-law Marlyn Whitacre and sister-in-law Wanda Miles.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bonnie; son, Darren Allison of Wichita; daughter Melissa and husband, Dale Ritchey, of Wichita; daughter-in-law Cynthia and husband Scott Mannis of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; grandchildren, Daniel Ritchey, Megan Ritchey, and Miranda Ritchey, all of Wichita; Brittney and husband, Reese Lay, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Cason, and Roselynn Lay; sister Crystal Morris of Texas; brother-in-law Jim Garman of Oklahoma; brother-in-law Lanny Whitacre of Oklahoma; Aunt Wanda White of Oklahoma;and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brethren and friends. Ed will be greatly missed by all those who lives he touched.
