Edwin Carl Burden

Edwin Carl Burden, born August 22, 1938, to Aldrean and Ethel Burden in Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away December 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Edwin met the love of his life, Norma, while they were in college, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in devotion, hard work, and humor. He dedicated 43 years to the railroad industry, ultimately retiring as the Vice General Chairman of the BNSF Railroad-a career marked by leadership, integrity, and deep respect from his colleagues.
At home, Edwin was known for his warmth and quick wit. He delighted his grandchildren with the silly songs he loved to make up, filling their days with laughter and memories they will cherish forever. A talented craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking and built many pieces of furniture over the years, including a special wooden cradle that has lovingly held every one of his great-grandchildren.
Edwin was also well-known for his "Edwinisms"-the funny sayings and one-liners that were unmistakably his and brought smiles to everyone who knew him. His humor, creativity, and steady presence will be dearly missed.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife Norma, his children Teresa (J.R.) Garoutte and Ramona (Dave) Roney, grand children Justin (Jessica) Rice, Phillip (Sherry) Rice, Courtney (Matt) Wilkinson and Eric Roney, and his great-grandchildren Lawson, Lane, Jayden, Jameson, Mara, Molly, and Oliver.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, sister Alice McMillin, and his great-grandson Jaxson.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery.
