David Greear Burden, LCDR
David G. Burden peacefully went to meet Jesus on December 6th,2025 in
Williamsburg, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Evelyn Burden, and his loving wife Lori Burden.
Dave was born in
Pensacola, FL on June 13,1935 while his father Harvey P. Burden (class of 1930) was getting his wings. Dave was in the 19th company (class of 1958). In March 1959, he married Loretta Silver of Rossville, GA; whom he met in Athens, GA while he was attending Supply Corp School and she was attending UGA.
Over the next several years he served on the USS Valley Forge (CVS 45) as stock control officer,1960; the USS Alcor (AK 259) as supply officer; at
Clarksville, TN (SWAPO) 1962; in Naha, Okinawa as stock control officer (1964-66) ; in
Philadelphia, PA (ASO) as aeronautical repairables supply officer (1966-69); in Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam as supply and fiscal officer (1969-1970). For services performed in Vietnam, he received the Bronze Star w/COMBATV, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Honor Medal 1st Class and numerous campaign ribbons. He also served in Naples, Italy as stock control officer (1970-74), and in Moffett Field, CA as supply officer (1974-78). He retired from the Navy in 1978.
Dave also earned a MA degree from Boston College in International Relations, a MS degree from USCLA in Systems Management and a MBA from George Washington University in Finance.
In his civilian life Dave worked for RCA, GE, and Lockheed Martin. He worked on the Phalanx program and the Polaris program. For each program he managed the repair of aeronautical repairables.
In retirement Dave was very active in the church and the home owner's association (HOA), dealing exclusively in finance and accounting. He performed these duties in Moorestown, New Jersey;
Charlottesville, VA; and
Raleigh, NC.
Dave is survived by his brother Harvey W. Burden( USNA class of 1955) in
Williamsburg, VA; daughter Kelley Miller and her husband Scott Miller (Landrom, SC); daughter Dana Charbonneau and her husband Edward Charbonneau (
Travelers Rest, SC); grandchildren, David Charbonneau, and wife Melody Charbonneau; Rebecca Charbonneau Turner and husband Jesse Turner; Maggie Miller Cusamano and husband Patrick Cusamano; Benjamin Charbonneau and wife Hannah Charbonneau; Isabelle Miller Myers and husband Dylan Myers; six great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and their families, all of whom he loved.
There will be a Memorial Service at Patriots Colony,
Williamsburg, VA on January 30th at 1400 hours.
