Edwin Paul Gates

Edwin P. Gates, 95, passed away on December 21, 2024 at his home in Kilmarnock, VA surrounded by his loving family. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his twin brother Arthur and son-in-law, Phil. He is survived by his wife Marlene of 73 years, 2 daughters, Roni Esparza (husband Mike) and Beth Koeberle; and grandson Scott Raffensperger (wife Ana); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edwin was born in 1929 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to his parents Marjorie and Edwin Gates. He served in the Army and was stationed over-seas during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home he started a rewarding career with Verizon, eventually transferring and moving his family to Camp Hill, PA.
The majority of Ed's adult life was spent at their home in Camp Hill where he was blessed with many friends. He and his wife enjoyed traveling through all 50 states, and enjoyed extensive cruising as well as visits to many countries. Edwin had a strong faith and participated in many volunteer activities in his home church, Camp Hill Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Church Council and served on many committees. He was also very active in his community and especially enjoyed coaching Camp Hill's little league baseball for many years.
Edwin and Marlene made their last move to their home in Kilmarnock in 2014, taking part in church activities and enjoying many musical concerts and local events. Edwin will be remembered for the caring attentiveness and great love he had for his family, a deep faith in his Lord and being a loyal, caring and fun-loving friend.
Services will be held at the discretion of the family.
