Edwin G. Grisgraber
Edwin G. Grisgraber, age 92 of Shelton, passed away at home with his family by his side on May 30, 2023. Edwin was born on May 25, 1931 to Frances (Love) and Steven Grisgraber. Edwin grew up in Southbury and worked with his parents to build the family home on Route 188 in Southbury. He graduated from Southbury High School in 1949 where he was captain of the baseball and basketball teams. He went to Henry Abbott Technical School and then was drafted into the service in 1952. Edwin was proud of his service as a United States veteran in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and was the recipient of the Korean Service medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Edwin met the love of his life Barbara on a blind date in 1956 and found his forever dance partner. He always said that Barbara was the best dance partner he ever had and was able to follow his lead anywhere on the dance floor. It was a dance that lasted 65 years until Barbara's passing in 2022. Edwin lived in Shelton from 1965 until his passing. Edwin worked for Pitney Bowes for 31 years in Engineering and retired in 1992. He had many friends throughout the company working for Engineering in Stamford, BSE Engineering in Norwalk and ending his career at Shipping and Weighing systems in Shelton. Over his career at Pitney Bowes, he had several patents from 1978-198 for Pitney Bowes Mailing Systems division. He was always proud of the people and the work that he did at Pitney Bowes. Even after retirement, Ed followed PB and was always happy to see current and former employees in and around town. In 1993, he retired to take on a new adventure of being a full-time grandpa to the "apple of his eye" Heather. He was with her practically every day growing up from the time she was 3, through preschool at Huntington Congregational Nursery school with her grandmother and had many adventures up until the time she went to school. Grandpa always lit up when his granddaughter was in the room even toward the end of his life. Ed was famous for telling stories from his days in Southbury, to meeting Barbara and all the places that they had traveled together with Roy and Arlene Wells. In his later years he could always be found doing some type of project either on his or his daughter's house. In his wife's last years, he was a devoted caregiver till the end of her life. Edwin is survived by his daughters Linda, Debbie and Karen, granddaughter Heather, and many nieces and nephews around the country. The family would like to thank his caregiver Blossom for her attention in Dad's final months and his neighbors Kathy, John, Ashley, and Lori Currivan who are family to the Grisgraber' s and always so good to Edwin and Barbara over the years. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a graveside funeral service to be held at Huntington Lawn Cemetery South, Shelton at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2nd. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton, has been entrusted with Edwin's funeral arrangements. Online condolences can be left for the family at
