Edwin John "EJ" Montanez, 49, of Austin, Texas, passed away on October 29, 2023.
A memorial service to honor EJ's life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Monday, December 11th at Glad Tidings Church in Morehead City, NC, officiated by Pastor Tim Marriner. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Glad Tidings Church. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Edwin, affectionately known as EJ, was born on October 23, 1974. He brought an undeniable light to the lives of all who knew him. With his sharp intellect and thirst for knowledge, he constantly sought to expand his understanding of the world around him. He enjoyed working on computers and had amazing technical skills.
EJ's interests included cooking and preparing delicious meals for gatherings and cookouts. He had a passion for martial arts, loved riding his motorcycle, and always enjoyed the beat of a good tune. He had many happy memories at Atlantic Beach, NC where he enjoyed the natural beauty of the coast.
EJ possessed a kind and caring nature that was evident to all. He had a genuine ability to empathize with others, offering comfort and support whenever it was needed. As a devoted father and dedicated provider, EJ always put his loved ones first.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are her wife, Liz Montanez of Greensboro, NC; daughters, Madelyn Montanez and Zoe Montanez, both of Greensboro, NC; son, Sean Montanez of Morehead City, NC; father, Ed Montanez and wife Debbie of Virginia; mother, Margaret Conely and husband Tim of Havelock, NC; sisters, Erin Heller and husband Jeff, and Meg Montanez, all of Raleigh, NC; and step-brother, Shane Bass and wife Lindsey of Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations towards EJ's children's education. Checks can be made payable to Ellie Davis and mailed to Munden Funeral Home in care of The Montanez Family, 2112 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
