Edwin Peter Francis Kakazu, age 53, of Lac Courte Oreilles, WI, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026.
He was born on May 01, 1972, in Chicago, IL, the son of Darrell Guy Powers and Alma Lillian Potack Powers. Edwin graduated from Lac Courte Oreilles in Hayward, Wisconsin.
Sonnyman loved working with his hands, especially making things out of wood. He could take a simple piece and turn it into something beautiful. He took great pride in his work in construction and had a gift for fixing just about anything. He also served his country, carrying that same willingness to help others into every part of his life. He had a deep love for music and could tell you exactly who was singing and what song was playing within moments. He loved the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs and truly enjoyed life, whether he was kicking butt in darts and cornhole or getting family up to dance. He was funny, kind, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His daughter and grandbabies were his world. He cherished every moment spent with them, teaching them, laughing with them, and creating memories they will carry with them forever. He especially treasured the conversations he shared with his daughter about games, books, and everyday life. Those moments meant everything to him. People will remember him for his big heart, his sense of humor, and the way he showed up for others. He will be deeply missed and forever loved
He is survived by his daughter: Lauren Ashley Kakazu, grandchildren; Nova and Scarlett Kakazu, brothers; Ed (Tina Schmock) Potack, Keith(Angela) Kakazu, Jeff (Joyce) Kakazu, Francis Kakazu, sisters; Emily Oshogay, Brenda Bracklin, Kathleen Ryan, Marion “Punkin” Belille, Kimberly (Tyler Kriens) Miller, Patricia (Julien Baker) Patricia Kakazu, aunt; Audrey Potack, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
