Edwin Alvin Kirchhevel, 88, of Fargo, ND formerly of
Brookings, SD passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Memorial Services have been set for 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Rude's Funeral Home,
Brookings, SD. Memorial Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service.
Edwin Alvin Kirchhevel was born March 12, 1936, near Armour, SD, the son of Emil and Emma (Ruck) Kirchhevel. He grew up near Armour and attended a country school outside of Armour.
Ed was united in marriage to Cynthia Pederson at First Lutheran Church in
Brookings, SD on April 16, 1967. Ed and Cindy had 3 children, Kristi, Peter and Jenni.
Ed worked on the Kirchhevel family farm and also worked road construction, but the career he was most proud of was working for the Brookings School District, at Hillcrest Elementary for 25 years, before retiring in May of 1997. Ed was known for his hard work and work ethic.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, watching his grandchildren play sports, having coffee with the guys at McDonalds or HyVee. Not many know this, but he had a really great singing voice and played the harmonica.
He was funny, witty, an extremely kind person. He would give a stranger his last penny. He could talk anyone's ear off, especially about the weather. He could predict the weather based on where cattle were positioned in the field.
While living in Brookings for 50 plus years, he was a member of First Lutheran Church. He was a member of the ACME Worker's Union while working for the Brookings School District.
Ed and Cindy lived in Brookings for over 50 years before they relocated to Fargo, ND in 2019 to be closer to their daughter, Jenni and her family.
Ed is survived by his wife, Cynthia Kirchhevel of Fargo, ND; his children, Kristi (John) Hamilton of Sioux Falls, SD, Peter (Dawn) Kirchhevel of Arlington, SD and Jenni (Mitch) Peters of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren; Justin (Lindsie) Kirchhevel, Quinn Hamilton, and Charley Peters; great-grandchild, Riggins Kirchhevel; step grandchildren, Quade Peters, Danielle (Will) Janssen, and Taylor Schultz; step great-grandchildren, Mauer, Riya, Jaelynn, Mason, and Sutton; brother, Maynard (Luetta) Kirchhevel; sisters-in-law, PJ (Terry) Turner and Nancy (Derek) Leisure; several nieces and nephews that called him, "Uncle Ed", including Jesse Johnson, Joe (Allison) Green, and Caleb (Mary) Green.
