Edwin E. "Ed" Koopmann, age 84, of Bartelso, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at SSM Health St. Joseph's Hospital in Lake St. Louis, MO. He was born March 29, 1941, in Bartelso, a son of the late Herman and Cecilia (nee Varel) Koopmann.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Koopmann (nee Beckemeyer) whom he married July 10, 1970, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Beckemeyer and who died October 2, 2012; siblings, Helen (Cornelius) Gebke, Alois Koopmann, and Tom Koopmann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vince and Clara (nee VanDorn) Beckemeyer; and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lorene Koopmann, George Vandeloo, and Dave Beckemeyer.
Ed is survived by his loving daughter, Amy (John) Bruggemann of Germantown; grandchildren, Cole and Ali Bruggemann; siblings, Roman "Butch" Koopmann of Belleville, Blanche Vandeloo of Bartelso, and Andrew "Pete" (Janet) Koopmann of Belleville; sister-in-law, Mary Beckemeyer of Beckemeyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ed lived a life of hard work and dedication. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake, where he worked in maintenance. In addition to his service, Ed was a lifelong farmer, devoted to his land and his livestock. His commitment to agriculture and community was evident in his membership in the Clinton County Farm Bureau.
Ed was a man of faith and a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown. He was also a proud member of the Bartelso Knights of Columbus Council 4745.
Outside of work and service, Ed enjoyed a simple, fulfilling life. He loved golfing, cheering on NFL football games, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Whether it was attending their school events, watching their sports games, or simply enjoying quiet moments together, Ed found great joy in being a grandpa.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown with Fr. Thomas Lugge presiding. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts, memorials may be made to St. Boniface Parish or Central High School FFA and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Moss Funeral Home, PO Box 117 Germantown, IL 62245, who is serving the family.
