Henry Koopmann Obituary

Henry Koopmann
04/24/1920 - 03/25/2025
Henry Ferdinand Koopmann passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on March 25, 2025. Born April 24, 1920, he was just one month shy of his 105th birthday.
Born and raised in San Francisco, he was the only child of Claus and Hulda Koopmann. Henry attended schools in San Francisco , then went on to UC Berkeley where he graduated with a degree in chemistry,( his passion since age 6). He was able to use his education to work in the roofing materials industry for over 40 years.
As a child Henry enjoyed many camping trips to Yosemite park, spending days hiking with his father. He played the violin and participated in the Boy Scouts…working his way up to Eagle Scout. As a young adult Henry developed another life long passion: folk dancing! He loved all aspects including teaching and performing. As a member of the Berkeley Folkdancers he danced well into his 80s and was a much sought after partner. Henry also enjoyed gardening and cooking. He learned to make several traditional German dishes from his mother, who was an excellent cook.
Henry is survived by is daughter, Leora Koopmann Pittenger of Bozeman, Montana, and his son, Roger Koopmann of Alameda, California. His ashes will be scattered off the coast of Marin per his wishes. No formal service is planned.
