Edwin Macal, age 89, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at Colonial Manor in Amana, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, followed by a memorial service at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E. Water Street in Decorah, with Pastor Randy Kittelson presiding. Burial will be in the Freeport Cemetery at a later date.
Born July 22, 1935, in Decorah, to Ralph and Myrtle (Syvertsgaard) Macal. Edwin was a lifelong resident of Northeast Iowa and a man deeply rooted in family, hard work, and the simple joys of life.
After graduating from Decorah High School in 1955, Edwin proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Shirley Wray, on June 5, 1965, in Decorah. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and dedication.
Edwin worked with his brothers roofing houses, later joining his brother Mel in farming. He went on to have a long and steady career at Deco Products in Decorah, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
An avid outdoorsman, Edwin enjoyed fishing throughout Northeast Iowa, hunting with his brothers, and spending quiet, joyful hours with his grandchildren, especially playing board games and sharing stories. His love for family was evident in everything he did, and his presence brought warmth and strength to those around him.
Edwin is survived by his Two Children: Lisa (Chad) Kloubec, Fairfax, IA, and Dean (Melissa) Macal, Rosemount, MN. Six grandchildren: Jacob Kloubec, Justin Kloubec, Ethan Macal, Macey Macal, Reid Macal, and Lynleigh Macal. Brothers: Mel Macal, Leo (Artis) Macal. Sister-in-law: Geraldine Zemp, Glenda (Rick) Foshee. Brother-in-law: Lyman (Fay) Wray and many nieces and nephews.
Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Macal. Parents: Myrtle and Ralph Macal. Sister: Jeanette Williams. In-Laws: Elzie and Ruby Christine (Boyd) Wray. Sister-in-law: Nancy Macal, Fran Wray, Linda McManus & Verla (Larry) Boyles. Brother-in-law: Lee Zemp.
