Edwin Kistler "Ek" Morrison

Edwin Kistler Morrison, age 82, passed away on Thursday March 21, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 15, 1941, to his parents Eldred and Annie Morrison, both have preceded him in death. EK is survived by his wife, Pat; his son Keith; his daughter Kristi Gaskin (John); grandson Ryne McClendon (Aubri); granddaughter Sidney Goscinski (Drew); great grandchildren, Presley and Colton McClendon and Landry and AJ Goscinski; his brother E.E. Morrison (Glenda); and his sister-in-law Cathy Thompson (Tim).
Prior to retirement, EK worked as a systems programmer and manager for Bell Labs, Unisys and Lockheed Martin. There he worked on the development of the DOS programming language, programmed missile systems for the Navy and managed many other naval projects during his years of employment.
After retirement, he became a licensed deep sea charter boat captain and was well known by the fishing community as "Capt EK". He loved to fish but mostly he loved to take you fishing. Among his fishing accomplishments were tournament winnings for an 800 lb. blue marlin caught on the Outer Banks of NC, a NC state record for yellow fin tuna, and catching a grand slam in the Florida Keys. But he'd always tell you his greatest catch of all was Ms. Pat – his lovely wife of 63 years. His passion for fishing will live on through his family and friends and we will continue to tell all the many tales of the sea that we loved to hear him tell.
The family would like to thank Shelby Baptist Hospital, Heart South Cardiovascular Group and all other doctors and medical support team members for the wonderful care from the emergency room staff through to the CICU during his stay. We were truly blessed by the compassion and care portrayed by all and the love and attention he was given during these days in the hospital.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at Westwood Baptist Church, Alabaster, AL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate EK's life.
