He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Edson DD946 during the Vietnam War, serving 1967-1969 in active combat during the war and then was honorably discharged with Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal, and the Vietnam Campaign medal with device 1960.
He was born in Statham, Ga, and graduated from Winder-Barrow High school in 1967. He also lived in Doraville for 30 years with his wife Doris as a Journey man meat cutter.
He is survived by his wife Doris Wood of Auburn, son David J. Wood of Athens, granddaughter Kourtni Muse of Auburn, grandson Cory Muse, great grandchildren Korina Muse, Cory Muse Jr., Johnathan Muse, John Spears. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday January 17, 2025 from the chapel of Byrd and Flanigan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday January 17, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
