Edwina Hoard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simons Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 28, 2025.
Edwina Lee (Brown) Hoard was born June 23, 1923 in Lincoln, Nebraska by Francis Ruth (Jeltz) Brown and Scott Brown, granddaughter to Elizabeth (DePriest) Jeltz and John Jeltz of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Married to Fred Hoard (deceased) in Chicago, Illinois for 65 years where they had a daughter, Cynthia L Banks (Eddie L. Banks Jr. deceased) who is currently living in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sister to Dora E. Rich (deceased), Gerald Brown (deceased) and Alma Patricia Peterson, Dallas, Texas. Grandmother to Cyedha E. Banks of Pittsburgh, Pa and aunt to many nephews and nieces especially Sheila Sledge (Derrick) of Dallas, Texas.
Edwina attended Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois and worked for Ebony Publications for several years, and later in life, she joined Seaway National Bank. Throughout her life, Edwina focused on what mattered most family, faith, and friends. When her daughter was born, she was fortunate to become a stay-at-home mom, a role she truly loved.
Edwina was active in many social groups and church committees and enjoyed participating in Bible studies. She also loved to cook! We'll miss her laughter, her gentle spirit, her generosity, and the way she truly listened and we'll never forget her classy strength and wonderful sense of humor.
Her stories about not being able to drive, or getting lost even just going around the block, will always bring a smile yet she was never lost in Marshall Field's department store on State Street! Edwina will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 5910 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
