Effie J. Schmidt, 86, of Kronenwetter, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau.
She was born on July 22, 1939, in Cincinnati, Iowa, to the late William and Oral (McIntire) Ervin. Later she was united in marriage to Jerome Schmidt on July 4, 1959, in Killeen, Texas. Jerome preceded her in death in 2006. Effie will be remembered as a loving, selfless, and charitable woman that put the happiness and needs of others before her own. She worked hard to help family and friends and make sure they were taken care of. Effie loved her family and glowed with joy when she was around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved to spend her free time with as often as she could.
While their five children were growing up, Effie was a dedicated and loving mother and homemaker. She had also worked for the Department of Justice in Dallas, Texas, as a data processor. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and puzzles. Effie also liked to enjoy the animals and nature during time outside and work in her gardens.
Survivors include her children, Mark Schmidt of Irving, Texas, Rhonda (Alvin) White of Stevens Point, Jon (Monica) Schmidt of Kronenwetter, Kelly Schmidt of Marshfield, and Jerome “Joe” Schmidt of Wisconsin Rapids; 17 grandchildren, Tani, Christina, Katherine, Mark, Bryant, Nathan, Bernadette, Sister Jacinthe Marie, Abbe Raymond, Mariana, Brittany, Tomi, Michael, Alexander, Gregory, Mary, and Ann; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; parents, William and Oral Ervin; and siblings, Esther, Ernest, Rose, Katherine, Jenny, and Waneta.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Oratory, 325 Grand Avenue, Wausau, with Rev. William Evans presiding. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place on Tuesday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery, Rubicon. The family would like to thank Inner Peace Home Services, Aspirus Home Care, and especially the Aspirus Hospice House, who went above and beyond all expectations with their compassionate, attentive, and tender care for Effie.
