Egbert Hatch, Jr. Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Costantino-Primo Funeral Home on Jul. 29, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Egbert "Ed" Francis Hatch, Jr., age 90, of Hopewell, VA formerly of Philadelphia, PA and Berlin, NJ, surrounded by his devoted family, passed into the loving arms of God our Father on Monday, July 28, 2025, peacefully at home under the skilled care of the nursing staff of Gentiva Hospice.

He was the devoted son of the late Elizabeth R. (nee Rath) and Egbert F. Hatch, Sr. and stepmother Hazel V. (nee Ghantt). Husband of the late Dolores R. (nee Muth) and the late Evelyn M. (nee Smith). The loving father of Dolores R. Hatch (Stephen Leitold), Michael J. Hatch, John P Hatch (Scott Gilreath) and the late, Edward F. Hatch (Sandra nee Stewart) and Douglas F. Hatch (the late Dawn nee Muccigrosso) and Denise Hatch. Loving stepfather to Brian P. Drea (Kimberlee nee Deal), Deanna M. Drea and the late Thomas E. Drea. Happy and proud Pop-Pop/Poppy to twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted brother to the late Wayne Hatch and Robert Hatch and Elizabeth R. Muth.

Ed was a kind and loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was quick to make friends when he overcame his shyness. He was an avid fisherman owning a boat which he enjoyed with this family. In his younger days, he was the captain of a bowling league and played each week at the La Martinique Bowling Alley in Stratford, NJ. Ed worked in the food business for most of his life including Acme in PA, Harry's Groceries, in the Berlin Farmer's Market, then Thriftway Foods.

He changed careers and went to work at NJ Rivet Company for many years. When he "retired," he started driving the mini-school bus for children with special needs. They loved, "Mr. Ed" and told him he was the best bus driver. Covid made him "really retire" at 85 years old. He was such an amazing and loyal family-oriented man. He led by example. His strong work ethic and determination were passed on to his family. His kindness and love will live on through everyone with the example of these special gifts that he shared with each of us.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM at St. Simon Stock Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 178 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin, NJ.

Ed's family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 157 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ 08009. Arrangements under the direction of the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, BERLIN, NJ.
