Dr. Ehsan Ahmed

Dr. Ehsan Ahmed passed away peacefully on November 13 in Palm Springs, California. Originally from Washington, D.C., Ehsan is survived by his brother Omar (Lynn Delpire), sisters Shirin (Steve Andrews) and Nasim, niece Nancy (Pierre Bautista) and nephew Alexander Andrews. He is preceded in death by his parents Saiyed E. and Anne R. Ahmed.
Ehsan grew up in Washington, D.C., and neighboring Prince George's County, Maryland, active in school activities, including student government, music and soccer. He went on to study at Columbia University and earned a PH.D from Princeton in French and Literature in 1987, teaching at Tulane University, Stanford University, Louisiana State University and ending with a long career at Michigan State University. He embraced Lansing, MI, as home. His scholarship during his career included two books and more than a dozen journal articles and book chapters, as well as dozens of conference presentations. He traveled and studied in parts of France throughout his life.
Ehsan was a lifelong teacher and student in French renaissance art and literature. He was disciplined with fitness and diet. He loved learning from others across a variety of topics, often with engaging conversation that brought out his infectious laughter. He delighted and loved the humanness of others, always showing great kindness and patience. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends, including his long term partner Dennis Hall. Services will be planned later in Washington, D.C.
