Eileen Halaiko Obituary
Eileen Demarco Halaiko, 77, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
Eileen was born in an apartment connected to a Church on the island of Malta to the late Joseph & Carmela Demarco on October 28, 1946. She lived in London, Ontario, Canada, from age 2 until she met and married the love of her life, the late Stephen Joseph Halaiko of Akron, Ohio.
Eileen was a longtime member of St. Vincent Parish and was a current member of St. Francis de Sales Parish. Being born next to a Catholic Church reflected her professional mission, working for the Diocese of London and then as the Office Administrator for St. Vincent Parish from the early 1990s until retiring in 2011. She was active in the Quilt Club, Sisters in Stamping, and the Band Boosters for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. She enjoyed helping with wardrobe backstage at various productions including Jesus Christ Superstar. She was smart, witty and kind. She was a loving Mom and spouse, and a proud Grandma who lit up every time her grandchildren were around.
Eileen will be deeply missed by her children Joseph (Shelly Roder), Stephanie (David) Sykes, and Mark (Cori Zanin); grandchildren Sylvia, Jacob, Jeremy, Andrew, Joshua, Samuel and Stevie Marie; brothers Ray (the late Heather) Demarco, Godfrey (Henrietta) Demarco, and David Demarco; siblings-in-law Michael (Janie) Halaiko, Pat (Cathy) Halaiko, Mary Beth (Matt) Shea, Jeanne (the late Jerry) Rocco and Rosie (Phil) Newlon; and numerous dear nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 8, from 3-5PM and from 6-8 PM at the Anthony Funeral Home, Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S Main St in Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 9, 11AM at St. Vincent Parish, 164 W. Market St., in Akron. Interment at Holy Cross cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales Parish, Attn: Stephen & Eileen Halaiko Scholarship Fund.
