It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen McCormack on August 21, 2025 at the age of 101.

Eileen McCormack was born on March 26, 1924 to Charles Van Riper and Loretta (Torelli) Van Riper.

Eileen was a lifelong resident of Jersey City where she was raised primarily by Loretta Van Riper and her stepfather, Jack Dempsey. She lived a life of unwavering commitment to her family, her community and her faith. Eileen retired from the Jersey City Board of Education after many years devoted to her work where she was loved by teachers, staff and the children who often came to her for guidance. In addition, she served for many years as secretary for the Secretaries Association for the Jersey City Board of Education. She was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Aloysius Church, and later Saint Nicholas Church; she was also a member of the Rosary Society for many years. Eileen always treasured her summers in Laguna Beach and before that, Miami Beach, as well as her day trips to Manhattan. During WWII Eileen was a USO volunteer and often spoke of the sacrifices made by those in the service.

Eileen is survived by her children, Mary-Beth Westray (David), Veronica McCormack and her partner, Donald Massa, Monica McCormack-Casey (Daniel), James McCormack ( Sharon ) and Lisa Burgoyne (Kevin). Eileen leaves behind her grandchildren, Marc-David Westray (Sasha), Matthew Westray (Casey), Amber Casey; William, Katherine, and Sarah Burgoyne, and her great-grandchildren, Sage and Ryder Westray.

Eileen is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Walter, and her sons, Tommy and Richie, her "best friend."

Eileen was predeceased by her siblings, Marian, Joseph, Vincent, Julia, Ellen, Muriel, John and Martin. She is survived by her half sister Carol (Van Riper) George.

Eileen also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives from the Dempsey, Van Riper, Torelli and McCormack families. Eileen was known for keeping in touch with all her relatives and countless friends through her beautiful letters.

Eileen was known for her unwavering love and support for her family, her community and this country. She always reminded us to "Do your best always for God, country and family."
