Eileen Ruth Salter, age 87, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 at her home. She was born November 6, 1924, in London, England, the daughter of the late John William and Emily Rose (Baglee) Taylor. Eileen and Edwin B. "Ted" Salter were married in Kenton, Middlesex, England on September 21, 1946. Along with her husband, she entered the United States and moved to Chicago, Illinois on October 8, 1950. They then moved to Los Angeles, California in 1953, and Eileen became a U.S. citizen in 1957. She was a singer and variety arts performer, particularly puppetry of all types. Eileen and Ted appeared on several television shows, including "Truth or Consequences" and "To Tell the Truth" in the 1960's as well as several short films. She retired from the University of Southern California as an administrative assistant of the Dept. of Gerontology. They moved to Hillsboro in 1989 where they made many friends. She is survived by cousins Doreen (Jim) Grant of Victoria, Australia and Dorothy Farmer of Queensland, Australia; two goddaughters, Claudia (Ward) Bushee of San Francisco and Melody (Brandon) Heikes of Corvallis, Oregon; a godson, Patrick (Sherri)Thompson of Billings, Montana, as well as special friends Leland and Ellen Pennington of Lynchburg, Glenna Walker of Hillsboro and Shirley Reynolds of Glendale, California. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Edwin B. "Ted" Salter, on June 19, 2001; an older sister who died during infancy; her step-father, Edward "Ted" Martin, and a cousin, Les Farmer. In keeping with her wishes, she was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Humane Society, P.O. Box 471, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133, the Samaritan Outreach, P.O. Box 242, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 or the charity of the donor's choice.
