Eileen F. Tompkins passed away at her Brookdale residence in West Hartford, CT on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
She was a longtime resident of Southington where she raised her family with her husband of nearly 69 years.
Born in Queens, NY to the late Patrick and Helen Flynn in 1933, she was an only child and attended nursing school. Eileen was a nurse for many years working at major NYC hospitals mostly in the ER.
After relocating to Southington in 1973, she worked in the local school system as a part-time nurse then in the 1980's became the nurse at JFK junior high school where she retired from a long nursing career.
She enjoyed the winter sports of alpine and cross-country skiing, along with kayaking in summer. Active with cub scouts with her sons, she also taught religious classes at the former St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Eileen is survived by her husband Gerard and her four children; Eileen (Mark), Gerard (Cecile), Michael and wife Jackie and James and wife Amy, along with her twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to St. Luke’s Parish, 99 Bristol St., Southington, CT 06489.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11: 00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026 at St. Dominic’s Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Calling hours will be from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the Plantsville Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville.
