Mark Cossette Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 4, 2026.
Mark G. Cossette, 67, of Plantsville, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Born on March 20, 1958, in Meriden, Mark attended St. Stanislaus School and was a 1976 graduate of H.C. Wilcox Technical High School. He dedicated 43 years of his career to Pratt & Whitney as a machinist and leadman. He also worked at Quinlan Home Center, where he formed many lasting friendships with customers. Word quickly spread about his exceptional talent for carpentry, and he was often hired to build decks and remodel kitchens and bathrooms. He eventually set aside those projects when his sons were old enough to play sports and became their coach for basketball and baseball, as well as an assistant coach for football in the Southington leagues.

A devoted family man and avid sports fan, Mark was a loyal New York Giants and Boston Red Sox supporter. His favorite pastimes included tending his vegetable garden, fishing, swimming, and playing horseshoes. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Stella, who stayed protectively by his side throughout his illness.

He was the beloved husband of Deborah Cossette and the devoted father of Joshua and Benjamin Cossette.

He is survived by his brothers, Jeff Cossette (Sue) and Tom Cossette (Dara); his brothers-in-law, Henry Sawicki, Scott Sawicki, and Rico Beaudoin; and his cousin Lenny Ostasiewski and his wife Lorraine, with whom he shared an especially close bond. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mark was predeceased by his parents, George and Brenda Cossette; his in-laws, Hank and Pat Sawicki; and his sister-in-law, Pam Sawicki Beaudoin.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Yale Smilow Cancer Center for their exceptional care, dedication, kindness, and tireless support. They also offer a special shout-out to the entire staff on NP7 for treating them like family, and to Franciscan Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate spirit of gentle care.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 20th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 300 Research Parkway, Suite 310, Meriden, CT 06450.
