BACKSTROM, Mrs. Elaine - Age 86, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, April 22, 2023, at King Solomon Baptist Church, 2220 W. Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Jessie McIntosh, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Backstrom will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday.
On April 8, 2023, God called Elaine into eternal rest at the age of 86. Elaine was born on Dec. 31, 1936 to Robert T. and Jessie Remson, in Hesperia, Michigan and to this union were born 2 children. Her parents, along with her younger sibling, Robert A., later moved to the Detroit area. Jessie relocated with her 2 children to Muskegon, MI, later marrying Brice Kinney, adding a new baby girl, Barbara Diane. Elaine was educated through the Muskegon Heights educational system, attending Lindbergh Elementary and Muskegon Heights High.
Elaine met and married John Nash, moving to Flint Michigan, to begin a family addition of 4. Angela, Johnnie, Lynette and Vita. Elaine was employed with GM until her retirement. She loved horse racing, casino, family/friends and church where she served on many committees including the Mother Board.
She leaves to share her memories: 3 daughters, Angela Christine Cross, of Grand Rapids, MI; Lynette Elaine Nash, and Vita Denise Nash, both of Flint, MI; 1 son, Johnnie Dewayne (Dana) Nash, OH; 1 sister, Barbara Diane (Dwight) Hall, Aurora, OH; grandchildren Deondre (Matoia) Nash, Keona Nash, Aaniyah
Kelly, Alexis (Alexander) Turner, Gaven Nash, Ebony Nash, Jamel Nash, Kenneth Ward, Jr. ; 17 great and 8 great-great-grandchildren, Bonus sister, Johnny Ewing and Best friend Regina Bush; a God daughter, Mishaun Barber, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents Jessie and Robert T. Remson; brother Robert A Remson, sister, Marzette Metcalf, great-grandson, Javier Nash.
