Elaine Louise Bense, age 80, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025.
Born on June 19, 1945, Elaine lived a life marked by dedication to her family, a strong work ethic, and a love of travel.
Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved, loving husband, Larry R. Bense whom she married on November 26,1964; her parents, Harold and Lois Beckert; and her brother, Mike Beckert.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Bense and his wife Laura; and her daughter, Kathryn Bense and her fiancé Jeff Link. Elaine was a proud and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren include, Amanda Palen, TJ Palen, Alison Shergar and her husband Rebin, parents to Aurel and Leon, Kennedy Lonati and her husband Michael, parents to James and Scottie, and Lucas Bense. Elaine is also survived by her sisters, Nell Thacker, Carol Barth, and Martha Seeley; and by her sister-in-law, Carol Beckert, wife of her late brother, Mike. Elaine enjoyed a long and accomplished career. She worked as a District Manager for Avon, later retired from the May Corporation, and continued to stay active during retirement by working for H&R Block. Her professionalism, determination, and ability to connect with others were hallmarks of her working life. Above all, Elaine cherished her family and the memories she created with them. She especially loved traveling with her husband Larry during their long marriage, enjoying new places and shared adventures together. Elaine will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were fortunate to know her.
A memorial celebration of life visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River on Saturday, December 20, 2025, officiated by Rev. Dr. David
Schultz.
Memorials may be given to the church in her memory.
