Elaine Tucker Callahan

Elaine Tucker Callahan, 94, passed away on November 19, 2025. She was

born on May 24, 1931, in Birmingham, Alabama. She is preceded in death

by her husband, James Speed Callahan, Junior; her parents, William

Blaine Tucker and Neville Oliver Tucker; and her brother, Mylan Stephen

Tucker. She is survived by her children James Speed Callahan III (Nancy)

and Karen Callahan Strong (Stephen, deceased), granddaughters Anna

Elaine Strong and Alison Lee Strong, step granddaughter Natalea Tucker

Cummings (Eric), and three step great grandchildren.

Elaine was a graduate of Howard College in 1951 (now Samford

University) where she earned her degree in laboratory technology and was

a member of the Greek sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. She and her husband

established residency in Bessemer, Alabama, where he practiced general

surgery. Elaine was quite active in a number of local organizations in

Bessemer including the West Jefferson Historical Society, Junior Service

League, Music Club, and Literary Club. She and her husband were also

active members of The First Baptist Church of Bessemer, where she

participated in the church choir.

Elaine loved reading, singing, and especially traveling. She enjoyed many

trips with friends and family across the United States and Europe. However,

her true love of life was to share in raising her wonderful granddaughters

(and their two dogs Coconut and Sugar). She was patient, compassionate,

intentional, and a true light to those around her. In addition, her faith and

spirituality were driving forces throughout her life. She will be dearly

missed.
