Donnie Franklin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCalla Memorial Funeral Home on Nov. 15, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Donnie Franklin, 65, of Adger, Alabama went home to be with Jesus on November 12, 2025 surrounded by his family who sang Amazing Grace to serenade his passing into Heaven. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend.
Donnie was born in Jefferson County, Alabama on July 11, 1960 to Raymond and Irene Franklin. He graduated from Gilmore High School and went straight to work as a heavy equipment operator and went on to become a truck driver for Jefferson County. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Adger, Alabama.
He married his wife, Lisa, in 1994, and they had two beautiful children, Christopher Adam and Brittney Ann.
He loved fishing, hunting, cheering on the Crimson Tide, and would cut the grass until it was just dirt. Donnie was a homebody, which worked perfectly because his family always stayed nearby and he loved nothing more than spending time with them, and more than anybody else, he loved to spend time with his Colt Wesson. Donnie drank coffee all day long, not because he needed the caffeine, but just because he loved it, which is why he did a lot of things. He loved watching Oak Grove High School football, going on hunting trips with his daughter, and calling to check on his sisters and brothers.
Donnie is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Irene Franklin, his brothers Ray Franklin, Gary Franklin, Check Sadler, Ricky Sadler, and Lynn Sadler, two nieces Amanda Grimes and Alyssa Scott, and his nephew Matthew Franklin.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lisa, his son Adam Franklin (Stacy), his daughter, his "Lovebug" Brittney Franklin, and grandsons Colt Wesson Brasher and Easton "Uh-Huh" Franklin, twin sister Donna Glosson, and sisters Peggy Jo Murray, Darlene Sims, and Sheila Rice, brother Benny Franklin, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Donnie was a jokester, prankster, and nick-namer. He will be missed for his sense of humor, his love for the outdoors, and the way he got mad at the TV (even though it was because he couldn't work the remote). We will especially miss him on holidays when he would always call to wish his siblings a Merry Christmas or Happy Birthday, when we watch Alabama Football without our designated commentator, and when the grass gets taller than an inch.
A funeral service honoring Donnie's life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, a visitation for friends and family from 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM, and funeral service at 10:00 AM at Bible Baptist Church in Adger, Alabama. Interment will follow the service at Big Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Adger, Alabama.
