Elaine R. Martin, age 77 of Kalamazoo, died on November 23, 2024. She was born on June 11, 1947, in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Edward and Dena (Koenes) VanWieren. She graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1965 and received her bachelor’s degree in social work from Western Michigan University. Elaine was a social worker for the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital and the Kalamazoo State Hospital. She retired as a manager for the Gull Road Meijer’s. On July 11, 1969, she married Donald Martin. She enjoyed time with her family at the Timber Trails Campground. Elaine attended Westwood Christian Reformed Church and most recently Centerpoint Church.
Her family includes her husband, Donald Martin; her sons: Douglas Martin, David Martin, Todd (Kimberly) Martin, and Kevin Martin; her grandchildren Dan (Lauren) Kannegieter, Megan (Shayne) Merriman, Meghan (Skyler) Nichols, Jacob Martin, Anna (Cole) Huttenga, Faith Martin, Amanda (Mitchell) Courtney, Derek Schaaf, Abby Martin, Nic Martin, Kenzie Martin, and Taylor Martin; her great-grandchildren: Braylin, Aleigha, Noah, Nash, Kashton, Espen, and one due in the spring; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John VanWieren.
Friends may visit with her family on Tuesday, December 3rd from 1:00-2:00 PM, at Centerpoint Church, 2345 10th St. N, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where her service will be held at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Jeff Porte officiating. Interment will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Donations in memory of Elaine may be made to Reformed Heritage Christian School. 700 N. Fletcher Kalamazoo MI 49006.
