Elaine Machiko O'Connell

Elaine O'Connell was born on October 8, 1940 to Toyoko and Hisato Torigoe in Eleele, Kauai, Hawaii. She was raised in Eleele and graduated from Waimea High School. She eventually moved to the Los Angeles area where she attended college. She met Charles (Chuck) O'Connell at Caltrans in 1964 where they both pursued careers. They were married on April 3, 1965. They adopted their 3-month old son, Paul in January 1971. After pursuing a computer career at Caltrans, Elaine decided to become a stay-at-home mom. She helped Paul make it successfully through elementary and high school. Paul was doing well until he had a major medical problem in his senior year in College.

Elaine and Chuck had the opportunity to travel after Chuck retired from Caltrans. Elaine and Chuck would travel to various European countries on vacation. That ended when Elaine came down with COVID. She never fully recovered and was under the weather for numerous years including the last two years in a Board and Care home. She passed away on February 10, 2026. She will be missed by many, especially her husband and adopted son.

Services will be held on April 9th at the Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary. Viewing will be from 9am-10:45am. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am and internment will follow.
