Elaine Scott

Elaine (Rougas) Scott of Colorado Springs, died March 26th at The Retreat at Sunny Vista where she had been a resident since 2021. She was born on Nov. 5th, 1922 in Pueblo, CO to John and Katherine (Tsaus) Rougas, the youngest in a family of five (beautiful) daughters and three sons and the "blonde Greek" in the family. She was especially close to her brother, Jon, and they enjoyed traveling together as young singles, including a trip on the QE2 in the early 1950's where she played match-maker for her brother and his future wife, Violet, while aboard the ship. She spent her early working career in Omaha as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch, then later in the banking industry and following that as a book reviewer for a local newspaper upon moving back to Colorado. Elaine was a faithful, lifelong member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church. She married Kenneth Scott in 1983 and they enjoyed a married life full of travel. He preceded her in death in 1988.
After her husband's death, Elaine strove to remain mentally active and independent for as long as possible. At age 87, she worked with other writers in the research of Greek immigrants who settled in Colorado from the 1880's through the 1920's, highlighting stories from her own family heritage to be published as a series of articles for the Colorado Springs Gazette. In addition to her husband, Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jon, Peter and George Rougas; and four sisters, Georgia Lucas, Harriet Zaharias, Norma Nichols and Irene Ingle. She is survived by a brother, Dean Rougas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Trisagion service will be held on April 8th, 6 p.m. at T.G. McCarthy Funeral Home, 329 Goodnight Ave. in Pueblo, Colorado, and funeral service on April 9th, 10 a.m., at St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, 1000 Spruce St. in Pueblo, Colorado, with the Reverend Stephen Powley Officiating. Internment will be at the Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, CO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, 1000 Spruce Street, Pueblo, Colorado, 81004 in Elaine's memory.
