Ms. Sime was born in Mount Holly, NJ to the late Harry Harrison Fillius, Sr. and Elsie DeVinney Smith Fillius. She was a Caring for the Carolinas award recipient in August 2012 for service with the Mauldin Police Department, the Mauldin Fire Department, and Miller Oaks Community Park. She enjoyed dancing and gardening. Elaine had an adventurous spirit that took her through life.
Surviving are three sons, Ed "Buster" Newell, Everett Newell with wife Bettyann, and Stephen Newell with wife Doreen; three daughters, Penny Newell, Roslynn Hatch, and Laura Camp with husband Larry; grandchildren, E.J. Newell with wife Amanda, Joshua Newell with wife Sandy; Sarah Newell with husband Brian Simpson, Miranda Newell with husband Larry Cotes, Philip Newell, Jennifer Batson with husband Terry, Jason Tobolski, Michelle Soares, Jess Soares, Kaitlyn Martinez with husband Juan, Amy Camp, and Jeremy Camp; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lizzy, Allessia, Luca, Leo, Erik, Landon, Carson, Michaela, Nora, Elliott, Jaxon, Maddison, and Bryson. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Newell; a daughter-in-law, Catherine Newell; son-in-law, Ronald Hatch; seven brothers, Harry H. Fillius, Jr., Donald Fillius, Warren Fillius, Romaine Fillius, Jake Fillius, Oscar Fillius, and Kenneth Fillius; and five sisters, Margaret Atmore, Virginia Warwick, Verna Warwick, Harriet Harrison, and Phyllis Fillius.
A celebration of Elaine's life will begin at 3:30 PM Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Memorials in Elaine's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
