Shirley Darlene Wolter of Aberdeen, South Dakota, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, at the age of 93. Shirley passed away peacefully, with her son, Larry Sime, and her daughter-in-law, Cindy Sime, both at her side.
Shirley was born on August 12, 1931, in Cresbard (rural) on her Grandpa Fred Wolter's farm. She was born to Arthur and Doris Wolter. She attended rural, country school until 1942, when her family moved to Redfield, South Dakota. She attended public school in Redfield and graduated from high school there in 1949. Shirley loved accounting and commercial subjects in high school and was offered a job in that field at J.C. Penny's office in Redfield. She worked there until October of 1952 when she married Arvid Sime of Mina, South Dakota. She then moved to and lived on the Sime family farm with Arvid. Arvid and his father, Edward, both lived and farmed there. Shirley and Arvid moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota in 2003.
Shirley gave her heart to Jesus Christ at the early age of 9 years. He was always important to her! Shirley's church - Richland Church - was also very important to her. She attended Richland Church from 1931 to 1942, when she moved away to Redfield. However, she happily returned in 1952, after her marriage to Arvid Sime. Shirley and Arvid started first grade together, and their families were neighbors and friends who kept in contact throughout the years.
Shirley and Arvid had two children. Their daughter, Lynette, was born on April 20, 1954. Their son, Larry, was born on October 17, 1957. Shirley joyfully spent her life loving and serving her family. Shirley also spent much of her time serving at church. She worked in the church nursery, taught children in Sunday School, helped with women's ministries, and sang in the church choir. Shirley also participated in the Aberdeen Christian Women's Club and the Aberdeen MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) child care group.
Shirley was so thankful for her years growing up in a Christian home, for her parents, Arthur and Doris (Baily) Wolter, sister, Bonnie (Orville) Steward, her dear husband, Arvid Sime, her two children, Lynette (Sime) Heitz (daughter) and Larry Sime (son), her son-in-law, Harlan Heitz, daughter-in-law, Cindy (White) Sime, and her grandsons, Ryan Sime (wife Tanya Stone Sime) and Taylor Sime, and her great-grandchildren, Chloe Sime (great-granddaughter) and Simeon Sime (great-grandson).
Shirley wrote that she was most thankful for God's love and salvation, along with her dear husband and her family.
Preceding Shirley in death are her parents, Arthur and Doris Wolter, husband, Arvid Sime, daughter, Lynette Heitz, and siblings, Dorothea Schurch and Gerald Wolter.
