Elbert Columbus Minnick, III, Butch, passed away at the age of 59 on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at his home.  Butch was born on October 16, 1964, in Lynchburg, Virginia, and was a loving husband, an awesome father, a devoted son, and a kind and generous friend to all.

Butch is survived by his wife, Terry; children, Alex and Sophie; parents, Sonny and Michele; brother, Mickey and his wife Linda; and nephew, Michael. He is also survived by his uncle Larry Minnick and his wife Betty; aunts, Maureen Blackwell and Sandra Driskill; and a host of cousins. An avid animal lover, Butch loved his pet cats Lexie and Gracie, as well as his grand-dog Missy and grand-cats Peanut and Beans.

Butch held a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University as well as a Master of Engineering degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia.  Butch spent much of his career working in the nuclear industry but did venture into mobile telecommunications for a few years.  A creative thinker, he was issued two patents during his career. Butch enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, doing DIY projects and watching sports.  

A celebration of Butch’s life in the form of visitation will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

In lieu of flowers, consider making donations to the Amyloidosis Foundation or the Lynchburg Humane Society.
