Nancy Clements Knowlson Leonard entered her eternal rest at the age of 91 on March 14, 2026. She lived most of her long and happy life on Leda Grove Road in Halifax County Virginia. Nancy was born on April 3,1934 and was the youngest of nine siblings born to Frank and Martha (Fannie) Bray Clements. She was predeceased by her husband Loy W. Leonard and stepson Jack Leonard. Nancy is survived by her sons Donnie Knowlson (Anne), Tim Knowlson (Eleanor), and stepsons Mike Leonard and Pat Leonard (Lelah). She is survived by three grandchildren, Byron Knowlson (Lauren), Paige Knowlson, and Spencer Knowlson as well as two great granddaughters, Zoey Knowlson and Isabel Knowlson.
Nancy attended Volens High School and received college credits from the University of Virginia. She worked in the Halifax County School System in various capacities. Nancy was a faithful lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Republican Grove and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star which focuses on charity, truth, and lovingkindness, virtues she believed in and practiced faithfully. Nancy recognized the value of an education and sacrificed much to ensure her sons received one.
Nancy enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Her dogs were faithful and loving companions in her later years and she derived great pleasure in spoiling them. Nancy loved her family most of all. She lovingly cared for her parents, aunts, uncles, and siblings as they neared the end of their lives. Large gatherings at the Clements homeplace are fondly remembered, and for many years afterward Nancy continued the tradition and kept the family close. She had friends of all ages and caring neighbors who were such a blessing as she grew older. The community support was genuine and much appreciated.
The funeral service will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Republican Grove with the Rev Shelton Miles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place in the fellowship hall immediately following the graveside committal service.
