Mrs. Brenda Banton Riddle of South Boston passed away on March 10, 2026 at the age of 73. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on February 23, 1953 to the late Van Edward Banton, Jr. and the late Betty Doss Banton. She was married to the late Samuel L. “Sonny” Riddle, Jr.
She was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church. Brenda was a retired X-ray Tech with Halifax Regional where she enjoyed her work, always wanting to help others in need. She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and adored her family, especially her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Samuel L. “Chip” Riddle, III and wife Ashley of South Boston, and Sara Frances Riddle and fiancé Timothy Garner of South Boston; grandsons, Riley Thomas Riddle, Brantley Warren Garner, Ian Edward Riddle, Liam Curtis Riddle and Bronson Walter Garner; siblings, Van Edward Banton, III and wife Debbie of Concord, VA, Connie Banton Hensley of Huddleston, VA, Diana Banton Smith of Rustburg, VA, and her special friend “Cujo”. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Snead Banton and a brother-in-law, Gene Hensley.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Black Walnut Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at 6196 Huell Matthews Hwy, South Boston.
