Elby Marion Loyd, a man who was admired, respected and loved by so many, went home to his Lord and Savior on January 26, 2026 at his home in
Vonore, TN. He was born on July 24, 1942 in
McComb, Mississippi to L.B. and Evelyn Loyd and was the first born of four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two younger brothers, Ronnie and Danny. Danny, the youngest, died the same day, but 5 years prior.
Elby is survived by his wonderful sister whom he cherished, Patsy (Dave) Lewis from Kingwood,Texas.
Elby is also survived by his loving and blessed wife, Jane Loyd, and his step children, Heather (Jamie) Wilson, Heidi (Nathan) Wright, and Erik (Charly) Bjornsen and his grandchildren, Emma, Micah, Benjamin, Samuel, Malachi and Nora. He was fondly known (and always will be) "Grandpa Elby". Since Elby did not have children of his own, this new family he "acquired" was so incredibly special to him as he was to them.
Uncle Elby was honored to have several nieces and nephews and they are DB, Tim, Tony, Frank, Keven, Casey, Kerry, Eric and Brenna along with their spouses and children.
Mr. Loyd was first married to Annie Reagin in 1963 and had a very special, loving, 59 years together until Annie's passing in April of 2023. They lived in Mississippi, Oklahoma, Kansas City, Chicago and New Jersey before moving to Tellico Village in Loudon, TN in 2000.
Elby was a 1961 graduate of Central High School, Jackson, MS and was in ROTC. Later, he went on to be a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. He went to Ole' Miss (a college he was very proud of, especially this year). Elby enjoyed his over 30 year employment with Motorola here in the states and later in China and Russia serving as VP of sales. In the 1990's he worked on the sales end of Nextel Wireless Communication System and the iDen system.
While in Chicago, Mr. Loyd owned and piloted a small twin engine airplane and would often take special trips to the Wisconsin Dells and other points of interest. His other hobbies included hunting, bass fishing, scuba diving, boating, and owning his own horse while living in New Jersey.
Elby was an extraordinary business and sales man and was very well known among the residents of Tellico Village as one of the kindest, helpful, integral, courteous and thoughtful Real Estate agents in the East TN Region. He had his own Remax franchise and employees for several years and worked for Remax for over 20 years. Elby was dedicated to his clients, a friend to all, and a real southern gentleman.
Elby loved cars and classic cars and was a member of East TN AACA . He was also head of the Leadership Council at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village and enjoyed singing bass in the choir. He loved playing cards with friends and was a delight at dinner parties. Elby was also known for his great sense of humor, bright smile, and personable ways.
"You are my sunshine, My only sunshine, You made me happy, when skies were gray, You'll never know dear, how much I loved you, Please, just give me one more day."
What an extraordinary, giving, and full life you have had, Elby Loyd. We will all miss your kindness, your smile, your love. You were simply THE BEST. There should be a new series called "Everybody Loves Elby"! "Well done, good and faithful servant."
A Celebration of Elby's life will be held at First Baptist Church, Lenoir City, 2085 Simpson Road E.,
Lenoir City, TN on March 7th at 1pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing in Elby's memory.
